Around 8am, I was getting strong urges to push and not a lot of breaks in between contractions. I was 5/6 cm dilated. I had forgotten that I had hired the Elle Tens Plus machine from MamaandI, so I got my husband to put it on me. I swear this got me through each contaction. My contractions grew in intensity but my beautiful midwife and husband(Calumn) helped me through them. The midwife used the analogy of the contractions being like mountains ( “breathe through the contractions like your climbing a mountain, you’re nearly at the top and you will get a break”).This really helped me push through the pain .

Second birth - C-section. She was breech

I had prepared for an intense emotional experience in labor, and – as an artist whose muse has always been the piercing beauty in life’s pain – I expected birth to bring forth a new melody for me to write about. You see, I’d lost my song, my hope, my faith…my words had run from my soul. For years, I’d stopped writing. My entire belief system was like a tree uprooted. Expecting fruits from all my toil, I only found dead leaves and dead ends. Expecting treasure in the roots of my years planted in solitude and service, I only found dried out dirt crumbling to the ground. I was shattered, angry, lost. But I prepared for labor to be so transformative, the pain and beauty to be so powerful, and the music so loud that I’d be jolted into the art of words once again.

In October 2021, Ellidy Pullin announced the safe arrival and birth of her child ‘Minnie Alex Pullin’; with late Australian snowboard world champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin.

Ellidy had dreams of a natural, calm environment for Minnie’s grand entrance (and that she did, AND SHE ALSO USED OUR TENS!). Ellidy’s birth story can be listen to via her podcast, Darling Shine! Season 2, Episode 9. Ellidy’s Birth Story!

I got out my tens machine and we started to settle into bed. We had done the hypnobirthing course and also some amazing one-on-one work with Megan from @your_best_birth. I was really feeling the visualisations and affirmations throughout the course, so I went into my “bubble of comfort” and began getting relaxed and prepared for what might be ahead. At one point I actually said to Paz, “Oh my gosh, these surges are the most beautiful and empowering thing ever” 🤭

I pushed for roughly 30 minutes before she mentioned that the baby was getting tired and the heart rate was getting a little low - She explained that with the next contraction I needed to push harder than I had before to get the baby out otherwise they would need to give me an incision to help.

All of Thursday was spent in the lounge room watching movies with Scott by my side who counted my breaths through every surge (this honestly made getting through them so much easier!) While they stayed 7mins apart, the intensity increased and I was thankful to have my @mamaanditens TENS machine for this stage of labour! By 5pm, my contractions spaced out to 15-20mins apart (which I later found out was the calm before the storm!)
